Feather 'n' Flame: Phonic Home is the soundtrack album for F.F.: The Harpy & Dragon, composed by Neon and the Argie Bees. Currently unreleased, the album features all the tracks from the Atari Jaguar game, rendered in an enhanced fidelity than what is included in the game itself.
Select tracks are also presented in "reimagined" versions, where their MIDI/tracker data is played through other digital instruments, on the compilation album Soundtrack to Flye 'n' Frie's Retro Remains — Reimagined.
Like the title of the game, the title of the album is semi-based on a reference to E.T.: The Extraterrestrial, that being the phrase "phone home" being mixed with the audio term "phonics".
Background
After listening to the soundtracks of at least 15 Atari Jaguar games, it was decided to have the soundtrack for F.F.: The Harpy & Dragon to have a sound that matched the Commodore Amiga demoscene.
Composition
The album was composed using the Windows version of PT2-clone, a ProTracker 2 clone written in C by Olav Sørensen (@8bitbubsy), after following YouTube tutorials on ProTracker created by wasp / PACiF!C^Powerline, due to this software being period-accurate to games released for the Atari Jaguar in the 1990s that also had their music composed on a Commodore Amiga using ProTracker.
A small set of samples was used throughout the entire soundtrack, and each song only has 4 channels due to software and hardware limitations of both the Jaguar and the tracker software.
Production
Album artwork
The album cover art reuses the box art for the F.F.: The Harpy & Dragon game, with layout and text changes to match the album.
Of additional note, the glowing rainbow originally seen emanating from the coloured half of the pixel art in the game's box art is missing, for legibility reasons.
