Inspired by restaurant and cooking simulation games like Cook, Serve, Delicious!, Cooking Mama, Overcooked, and What's Cooking? with Jamie Oliver, along with the park and building management of RollerCoaster Tycoon 3, SimTower, The Movies, and Tiny Tower, it expands the concepts found in these titles to an entire shopping mall and its surrounding farm and supply chain, all of which must be managed entirely by the player, as they balance crafting items from materials, customer service, preventing theft, and stocking shelves, among other things.
Different shops open up as the game progresses, leading to additional challenges, as restaurants and supermarkets require vastly different ways of preparing and serving food, for example. As your shopping mall grows into a megaconglomerate, transportation services are also expanded into, such as the management of surrounding car parking, bus and train stations, and an airport that gets built in later stages of the game. The entertainment industry is also available to expand into, with game, movie, and music development studios, and book publishing, also a viable option to look into, in order to produce more products for your mall to sell and display.
The player can add as many additional shops and services as they think they can manage (and can fit into their alloted space), without having to worry about the fictional government of the game considering them to be a monopoly, and the game will currently run indefinitely until the player runs out of money, with the objective of the game to get a high score, that being the total "all-time" amount of earnings that they made during the course of gameplay.
The game had the working title of RetaleTail.
