Newfolde later became the mascot of the Redgreen Linux from Scratch-based operating system due to their red-green colour scheme.

Concept and creation

Newfolde's name came from creating a new folder to house their art on a PC running the Windows operating system. After inadvertently pressing backspace once, the two words were combined to create the final name for the character.
