Voltereier was originally designed in 2013, during a Creature Exchange event on DeviantArt, for an artist now known as NoobsyDraws. Noobsy regifted the character to NeonWabbit nearly a decade later, in 2022, via a conversation that took place in Instagram DMs.
Concept and creation
Fictional history
Voltereier is a friendly terror from the deep, implied to be a squid-like creature, who disguises himself as a cat on the surface world in order to traverse it, but still doesn't manage to hide all his tentacle appendages.
Working as a travelling magician, he dresses as a nobleman crossed with a mad scientist, and while he dabbles in elemental magic, dark arts, and some questionable sciences, he is neither rich, nor a scientist employed in any official capacity, but is let into important high society places and laboratories simply due to his confidence, charisma, and the manner in which he presents himself.
For his stage shows, where he makes money on the side, he employs Sunny as his magician's assistant, as she is someone who actually has more magical powers and abilities than him. The two later became romantically involved after some time.
